For Woman-Owned Businesses making an impact in their community
Applications are open to nonprofit organizations, LLC or businesses, and in some cases, individuals. Eligible individuals or organizations must be seeking funds for a project that aligns with the mission and values of the Red Ants Pants Foundation and demonstrate that the grant award will be used in a way that furthers the mission and values of the Red Ants Pants Foundation. The Foundation will not fund political organizations, events or candidates.
We believe in the value of rural communities, because in small towns, we need each other, and we maintain the personal connection.
Proposed projects should:
- Primarily serve rural areas in the state of Montana
- Demonstrate community support via financial or in-kind donations, matches, volunteers, partnerships etc
- Be spearheaded by competent individuals and/or
organizations that demonstrate strong leadership
capacity and the ability to leverage resources
- Demonstrate an impact on the quality of life
through tangible effects on the local community - Preference will be given to projects that meet the above criteria and also align with Red Ants Pants Foundation's other mission pillars:
- To develop and expand leadership roles for women.
- To preserve and support working family farms and ranches.
The funds are available to enrolled members of the eight federally recognized tribes in Montana. All applications must include documentation of tribal enrollment in the form of a Certified Indian Blood (CIB) Form or tribal ID. An application will be considered incomplete without this information.
Awards for individual businesses can be up to $14,000 with a minimum dollar to dollar cash or in-kind match ($1:$1) and must be firmly committed and documented in the application.
Applicants of women-owned businesses in MT can apply for grants to be used for equipment, marketing, signage, staffing, trailers, leasehold improvements, or anything that will take your business to the next level.

The Indian Equity Fund (IEF) Small Business Grant is a grant to assist a start-up or expanding Native American business in Montana. This money can be used for a variety of activities such as the purchase of new equipment or the development of a new product line. To help with your Agricultural Business
The Growth Through Agriculture (GTA) program is a grant and loan program established by the Montana Legislature to strengthen and diversify Montana's agricultural industry through the development of new agricultural products and processes. Examples of eligible project activities involve equipment purchases, construction costs, advertising and promotion, and consultant services for engineering. The GTA program is administered by the Agriculture Development Council (Council) which is attached to the Department of Agriculture.
This program assists Montana agriculture companies in exploring domestic wholesale markets by encouraging exhibition at new trade shows outside of the state. It is not only for companies new to trade show exhibitions but can also be useful for established companies who are looking to exhibit at a show that they have never been to before.
The assistance comes in the form of a 50% reimbursement of qualified and approved expenses for trade show exhibition up to a maximum of $2,500.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Private-sector, Montana agriculture company providing a Montana based agriculture product.
- Exhibiting at a “business-to-business” (wholesale) trade show outside of the state of Montana.
- Have exhibited no more than 3 times in the specified trade show.
- Presents documentation that the trade show or event is an appropriate venue for the company include a link to the show’s exhibitor information including past attendance statistics).
- The Montana Department of Agriculture will make the final decision as to a company’s eligibility for this program.

MT Department of Commerce job creation program business grants are competitive and only available to companies creating new full-time high-wage jobs in Montana, and that have or growing to have at least 50% of their revenue from out-of-state markets.
